PAECT PD Presents: Transform your Classroom with Alternate Reality Games

30 Dec 2018 6:57 PM | Anonymous

Alternate reality games (ARGs) are a flexible, modular, and scalable approach to game creation that can be brought into nearly every classroom, regardless of content area. Using the world around your students - both physical and digital - you can turn the mundane into exciting. The unique draw of ARGs is that since they use real world systems like email, websites, and the physical space available to you, it does not require expert design skills to create and it only takes curiosity to play.

The webinar will go over the basics of why game based learning is a best practice for 21st century education, the core philosophy of ARGs, and an in-depth example of how an ARG was designed and executed to teach high school students about online privacy, cybersecurity, digital citizenship, and research skills. It will then supply some first steps and resources that should help get interested teachers started on making their own ARG experiences.
